Bay Area 101: What’s Fremont?

City of Fremont

The fourth largest city in the Bay Area, Fremont neighbors the cities of San Jose, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and San Francisco — collectively referred to as Silicon Valley. With around 240,000 people, Fremont feels like a hidden Northern California (NorCal) gem where residents enjoy a high quality of life and safe, modern community.

Fremont is notably diverse, with recent data showing African Americans at 3%, Native Americans at 0.3%, Asians at 36.8%, Hispanics at 13.5%, Pacific Islanders at 0.4%, Whites at 41.4%, and Other at 4.7%.

Professionally, over 1,200 high-tech firms call Fremont home — or at least their backyard. As a business hub, it’s simple to navigate via the BART system (local train provider) and public bus network.

Embedded in the city’s infrastructure, the University campus buildings include administrative offices; a library and reading rooms; laboratories for electronics, communications, database research, and simulations; classrooms; multiple computer stations; an assembly hall; a dining room; a lounge; and student success hub. SFBU dormitories sit just off-campus in a nearby residential area.
